06 Jan January – New Year, New Beginnings
Happy New Year!
The halfway point of the school year is here. Coming back from a long break, it is normal to feel a little unmotivated or even overwhelmed with the requirements that must be achieved by the end of the school year. But, this month doesn’t signify the end of something, like a nice long break. It is the beginning of something new.
This new season gives you a chance to reset and think about the goals you set in last year and celebrate the accomplishments you’ve achieved so far. That will also help in maintaining your focus on things that matter to you. And that will remind you of the importance of your activities and lessons to be learned. You need to know in your heart that you can do it!
This is also the time that New Year resolutions are made. If you’ve set resolutions, think of them as just ideas on ways to improve, not a measurement of failure. Each small step toward a vision or goal is a reflection of hope and growth. And each small step counts!
So step into this new chapter with confidence. You’ve already made it halfway and you have the tools, the courage, and the energy to finish. Let this season be your fresh start, your moment to refocus, and your reminder that you’re capable of far more than you think.
Ideas to Help Improve Your Outlook
- Each month pick one activity you love and have fun with it.
- Adjust big goals like getting better grades into mini-goals like spending a few minutes each day studying instead of waiting until the last minute.
- If you’re up for it, learn a new skill, something that gives you a sense of accomplishment.
- Try reflecting each week on what went well or what didn’t. Don’t get a sense of failure for those that didn’t. Think about what can be learned and used in the future.
- Select someone to whom you can share your journey that will help you keep moving toward your goal.
- Stay healthy by moving your body 20 minutes a day, getting plenty of sleep, eating healthy foods, and limiting screen time.
Remember to celebrate progress, not perfection. Rewarding small wins helps keep motivation alive. Don’t quit because you think you’re failing when really you’re learning.
